The GatheRing, Jamie Daws

If you haven't yet seen the trailer for this, watch it now!

...seriously if you still haven't seen the trailer - go and YouTube it now!

For those of you who continued to ignore my advice, this is essentially a baffling penetration of a ring through signed card from Jamie Daws - a powerful creator who contends with the impossible on a daily basis!

This has got to be quite possibly one of the most puzzling effects you could ever induce on an innocent layman (is it legal?), their ring fully linked around two punctured holes on their card - this souvenir is a keeper! But of course with such a perplexing effect, it's presumed that the method is going to use some kind of extraordinary device, ten years ahead of it's time - although that statement may well end up being true, the gimmick used here is nothing to be afraid of, maybe it's Jamie who's from the future!

To make the gimmick, you will require a couple of (get ready for some awesome alliteration) additional, affordable and attainable accessories as well as a few spare minutes. Jamie and Dave Forrest - who once again helps to keep the explanations crystal clear, go into great detail teaching the construction of this simple to make gimmick and various camera angles are used to aid this process. To wrap up my thoughts on the gimmick, I'd say that this is as devious as it gets - ingenuity at it's best!

Next up is the handling of the effect itself. The few sleights involved up until the crux of the effect are standard, easy moves well within reach of the amateur, so nothing to worry about so far! The actual linking of the ring onto the card will benefit from some practice to perfect the coordination of all the actions, but this really won't set you back very long and the in-depth teaching raises all the important points to address, so just to underline - don't be put off by 'sleight of hand', this is absolutely achievable!

Many more aspects such as timing, presentation and handing out the selection as a memento are also taken into account, making this DVD an exemplary example of thorough teaching.

Also explained as a bonus effect is Jamie's take on the colour changing deck, this is a fun and welcomed routine which once again demonstrates Jamie's ability to crush our present logic.

Overall, if your looking for a special effect to captivate your spectators then you really can't go wrong with this DVD. The work you have to put in is minimal compared to the devastating beauty of this effect. Commendable teaching as always from 'Full52 Productions' and an enjoyable, enlightening watch - thumbs up!
